Many sewer line problems are hard to locate, and just as hard to diagnose. What exactly is going on down there? A sewer line camera inspection allows us to see (and locate!) what’s going on in your pipes; no more mysteries, guesswork, or educated guesses!

What causes sewer line blockages?

Let’s start at the beginning: What causes sewer line blockages in the first place?

A blocked sewer line prevents plumbing waste from flowing away from your home. Some common causes of sewer line blockages include:

  • Using “flushable” products, like wet wipes
  • Flushing garbage/feminine hygiene products/etc. down the toilet
  • Dumping grease down your garbage disposal or sink
  • Root issues – making breaks in the line and/or trapping the line
  • An underground utility company dug through the sewer line to install their new line (oops!)

The method of repair for each of these issues is different; what works for a foreign object blockage will differ from what works for root issues. Identifying the specific cause of your sewer line blockage will help determine the most effective course of action. In order to do that, we turn to technology: a sewer line camera inspection.

What is a Sewer Line Camera Inspection; how does it work?

A sewer line camera inspection is just what it sounds like: an inspection of the sewer line using a camera.

To perform a camera inspection, our plumbers fit a specially made, waterproof camera to the sewer line and analyze the live feed from the camera. This live feed allows us to see what’s going on in tricky places, like under the ground or inside of cement. Radio transmitters on the camera record the depth and physical location from the surface of any defect or obstructions.

This takes the guesswork out of both: A) what is causing the problem, and B) where the problem is located. We are able to diagnose the issue accurately, and determine what solution will be most cost-effective.

What are the benefits of a sewer line camera inspection?

The proof is in the pudding!

The benefits of a sewer line camera inspection are twofold; we feel their impact as much as you do!

Peace of Mind. Accuracy.

When we perform a sewer line camera inspection before undertaking a project, everyone can breathe a little easier knowing that we have an accurate understanding of the issue, and thus are able to determine the most efficient and effective method of repair.

Prevent Future Blockages

With a camera inspection, we’ll be able to learn if the blockage was caused by poor habits (like pouring grease down the sink). If so, we can point you in the right direction so that you can prevent an issue like this from happening again in the future. When you know better, you do better.

A sewer line camera inspection is an excellent tool to use for both at-the-moment issues and for prevention. We’re talking to you, home buyers! Before purchasing a home, we strongly suggest having a house plumbing inspection, where we thoroughly analyze your plumbing, fixtures, and pipes, and let you know of any repairs needed and potential problems. Nothing ruins that love-my-new-home glow quicker than a pricy bill to replace your sewer line.
