Robert G. Henry, Sr. is Born

Robert G. Henry, Sr., later known as “Spot,” is born in Crystal Springs, Mississippi.

Military Service Begins in Savannah

Robert joins the United States Army Air Corps and becomes one of the first troops stationed at Hunter Army Air Base in Savannah, now Hunter Army Airfield. He serves as a flight officer and glider pilot during World War II.

Robert & Valeria Marry

While stationed in Savannah, Robert meets Valeria Hutson. They marry in 1943 and later return to Savannah to build their permanent home after the war.

The Family’s Plumbing Roots Begin in Savannah

After WWII, Robert joins his father-in-law George W. Hutson in the family business, Hutson Plumbing, beginning the family’s long history in the plumbing industry.

Henry Plumbing is Founded

Robert and Valeria Henry establish Henry Plumbing Company in Savannah, Georgia alongside key family members, including their son R. Glenn Henry, Jr. and son-in-law Winston B. Flanders. The company initially focuses on residential plumbing during Savannah’s housing growth boom.

Expansion Into Commercial & Industrial Plumbing

As Savannah and surrounding communities continue growing, Henry Plumbing expands beyond residential work into commercial, industrial, remodeling, and repair plumbing services.

Second Generation Leadership Takes Over

R. Glenn Henry, Jr. becomes President of the corporation, while Winston B. Flanders becomes Vice President, continuing the family legacy into the next generation.

Elizabeth “Betty” Flanders Named CFO

With the company continuing to grow, Elizabeth “Betty” Flanders assumes the role of Chief Financial Officer. Around this time, founder Robert Henry retires while remaining active as a consultant to the company.

Todd Reed Joins Henry Plumbing

Todd Reed joins the company after serving in the United States Army and being stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, creating another full-circle connection between military service and the company’s history.

Third Generation Leadership Continues

Following the passing of Winston B. Flanders, Todd Reed becomes Vice President and Tonya Reed becomes Corporate Secretary, continuing the family-owned tradition of Henry Plumbing.

Growth Across Coastal Georgia

Henry Plumbing continues expanding its reputation across Savannah and Coastal Georgia through residential, commercial, industrial, remodeling, and new construction plumbing projects. The company also becomes known for water heaters, gas line services, sewer line replacement, and specialty plumbing solutions.

Industry Recognition & Community Involvement

Henry Plumbing earns recognition throughout the region for quality workmanship, customer service, and community involvement while continuing to grow as a trusted multi-generational plumbing company.

Georgia Family Business of the Year Award

Henry Plumbing is recognized as a Georgia Family Business of the Year, honoring four generations of family leadership, service, and commitment to employees and the Savannah community.
