When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted daily life across the country in 2020, many businesses temporarily closed their doors or adjusted operations. However, essential service providers continued working to help keep homes and businesses functioning safely, including plumbers.
Throughout the pandemic, plumbing professionals remained on the frontlines responding to emergencies, repairing leaks, restoring water service, and helping protect sanitation systems in homes and commercial properties throughout Savannah and surrounding communities.
At Henry Plumbing, service calls continued during this challenging period while additional health and safety precautions were implemented to help protect both customers and employees.

Plumbing Services Remained Essential
Plumbing systems play a critical role in public health and sanitation. During the pandemic, plumbers were recognized nationally as essential critical infrastructure workers because homes and businesses continued relying on safe water, drainage systems, sewer lines, and functioning plumbing fixtures.
Even during stay-at-home orders and widespread shutdowns, plumbing emergencies still occurred, including:
- Burst pipes
- Sewer backups
- Water heater failures
- Drain clogs
- Leaking fixtures
- Water line problems
Reliable plumbing services remained important for both homeowners and businesses throughout the crisis.
“Sometimes it’s hard whenever we’re working on a two-man crew, and they’re trying to do a sewer line clean-out and that cable, it takes two guys on that cable, and they’re within that at 6 feet. But we try to, as best we can maintain that 6-foot distance,” Owner of Henry Plumbing Todd Reed said
Additional Safety Precautions
Like many service industries during the pandemic, plumbing companies adjusted procedures to help reduce unnecessary contact and prioritize health precautions while continuing to provide essential repairs and services.
These precautions often included:
- Increased sanitation practices
- Social distancing when possible
- Protective equipment for technicians
- Adjusted customer interaction procedures
- Enhanced cleaning of tools and equipment
The goal was to continue serving customers safely while maintaining reliable plumbing service throughout the community.
Supporting the Community Through Difficult Times
The pandemic created challenges for families, businesses, schools, healthcare facilities, and service providers alike. Essential workers across many industries continued operating during uncertain conditions to help communities continue functioning safely.
At Henry Plumbing, serving the Savannah community has remained a priority through both everyday plumbing needs and unexpected emergencies. The experience also highlighted the important role plumbing professionals play in protecting sanitation, clean water access, and public health.
